Famous Danny McCray Working As Starting Football Safety

In American football, a safety is scored when any of the following conditions occur: the ball carrier is tackled by a defensive player beyond the line of scrimmage; the ball carrier commits an illegal act that results in his being tackled beyond the line of scrimmage, or a fumble by the ball carrier is recovered by a defensive player and returned to his original position. Safety is also scored if, after a touchdown has been scored (by either team), the ball is moved from its original position on the field before it can be touched again by either team.

McCray is one of the newest players on the Steelers’ roster and is set to start as their starting safety.

Danny McCray was a versatile safety for the Houston Texans. Danny McCray played in all 16 games for the Texans in 2018 and had 4 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries, and 55 tackles.

McCray was one of the last players the Pittsburgh Steelers selected in the 2017 NFL Draft. He was a part of their draft class that consisted of defensive backs. Danny McCray played college football at Oklahoma State and was a two-time All-American. After spending two seasons at OSU, McCray was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He has since played for the Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills. The Baltimore Ravens drafted Tavon Young in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Young played his college football at West Virginia and was a two-time First Team All-American. The Ravens needed to find a replacement for Daryl Smith, who retired after 13 seasons with the team. McCray was given the opportunity to start 16 games in 2016 and he did not disappoint. He recorded 78 tackles, and 2 interceptions and was named to the Second Team All-Pro by Pro Football Focus.

In his sophomore season, McCray started all 16 games and recorded 102 tackles, 2 interceptions, and a forced fumble. He was named honorable mention All-ACC and was a key player on the Clemson defense that finished in the top 10 in scoring defense (19.8 points per game) and total defense (269.4 yards per game). McCray has good size for an inside linebacker at 6’1” and 230 pounds, with good speed to cover ground in pursuit of opposing ball carriers. He is an instinctive player who reacts quickly to the play unfolding around him and has good ball skills for an inside linebacker. He should continuand e to improve as he becomes more comfortable with Clemson’s complex defensive scheme.

In his third season, McCray also started all 16 games and recorded 105 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles. McCray was born in Hampton, Virginia. He attended Notre Dame High School in Hampton, where he was named first-team All-State and All-Hampton Roads. He is the son of former Pro Bowl linebacker, Kevin McCray. Spencer was born in Hampton, Virginia.
